Discover another perspective on learning.

Expand your educational horizons and enhance your cultural awareness with programs that journey beyond the school curriculum.

Another Perspective on Learning is an innovative, cross disciplinary, humanities based educational enterprise offering illustrated lectures, lecture/tutorials and audio visual presentations on a range of themes specifically linked to the VCE and IBDP curriculums, but also of wider interest. Themes relating to the study programs for English, English Literature, Theatre Studies, Visual Arts, History, Music, Philosophy, L.O.T.E. and Theory of Knowledge have been addressed since the enterprise began in 2005. Although the  dominant beneficiaries have until now been Upper Secondary level students, both younger children and adults have also enjoyed APL presentations. Today, it is the adult  life long learner who is increasingly becoming the focus.

At the heart of the enterprise is my belief that education through the Arts, can provide  another perspective on life and learning for students of all ages. To this end, each presentation is constructed around a thoughtfully developed Power Point slideshow and is enhanced by audio visual material when appropriate. This approach is designed to stimulate students by engaging them at various levels and challenging the expectations generally associated with a discipline oriented curriculum or learning program.

Lectures and presentations are intended to augment a student’s understanding of a topic by providing contextual background, introducing enriching detail and by extending or expanding specific themes. The analysis and discussion of relevant examples of visual art, a poem, a script, a performance or a piece of music play a significant role in the Another Perspective approach. Presentations can also serve as a form of revision and are of value in preparing students for university learning.
